What the extension does
Calendar Hours reads event titles, start and end times, and dates on the open Google Calendar page. It calculates elapsed durations locally and suggests or inserts hours or minutes in event titles. It can update a qualifying one-time event title after you move or resize it. Without direct API saving, it may open an inactive Google Calendar editor tab and use Calendar’s Save button. Changes made in an open editor still need your Save action.
Time zone calculations use Google Calendar’s displayed time zone and event zone labels, or your device’s time zone when those are unavailable. This data stays in the open tab’s memory. The extension does not request location access or change your device’s time zone.
Google Calendar connection
You can connect a Google account in Calendar Hours settings. Google asks for permission to view and edit events on calendars you can access, and for read-only access to your calendar list. The calendar list lets you choose calendars for the optional Workday import. Event access supports direct title saves after qualifying grid changes and reads selected work blocks when you request an import. Connect once, then enable fast saves or Workday import separately in settings.
For a direct title save, the extension requests the specific event from Google Calendar’s API, checks its title and times, then asks Google to change only its title. It does not change the event’s time. If the direct save cannot run, the extension can fall back to Calendar’s editor for a qualifying one-time event.
The short-lived Google OAuth access token is kept in local extension storage, separated from synced preferences. When it expires, the extension may try to renew access through Google without a new sign-in window. If Google requires interaction, you can reconnect in settings. Disconnecting asks Google to revoke the token and removes the local copy.
Optional Workday import
If you enable Workday import and choose Auto-fill from Calendar in Workday Enter Time, the extension reads displayed dates and existing time blocks, requests events from your selected Google calendars for those dates, and enters matching intervals through Workday’s visible form. Entries remain unsubmitted drafts for you to review. An optional setting can update one overlapping unsubmitted draft.
New comments are blank by default. If you enable Import event descriptions as comments, event descriptions are sent to your Workday organization as plain-text comments of up to 1,000 characters, including when updating a draft. Existing comments are preserved when that option is off. Event titles are not copied into comments. Calendar data is sent to your Workday organization only when you start an import; the Calendar Hours developer receives none of it.
The extension does not read or store Workday credentials or cookies and does not use a private Workday API. Workday import is optional; it never submits a time card for you.
Storage and sharing
Formatting, matching phrases, feature switches, selected calendar IDs and names, and Workday import preferences are stored with your browser’s sync storage. If browser sync is enabled, Chrome or Edge may sync those preferences under your browser account; Chrome and Edge use separate sync services. OAuth tokens stay local and must be authorized on each device. Import results, event titles, and event times are not persisted in extension storage. Calendar time zone detection remains in tab memory; an explicitly chosen Workday payroll time zone is a synced preference.
The developer does not collect, sell, or share your Google Calendar event data. The extension has no analytics, advertising, developer account system, Firebase service, or developer-operated server. Google Calendar receives requests needed for a title save; your Workday organization receives the intervals and optional descriptions only when you request an import.
